This is what Johnsbach guests get to see in the winter. In the Alpine region’s Gesäuse National Park, surrounded by magnificent mountains, winter sport aficionados can indulge all their passions. Numerous “rustic” huts invite you to stay just a little while longer and experience our justly celebrated Styrian hospitality. The ski resorts taking our visitors to higher spheres are located in close vicinity and can be reached easily and effortlessly. Whether you visit us with your family or individually as a sports aficionado, this region has endless joys in store for you. In fact, the innumerable possibilities here are reasons why so many of our guests come back to us again and again.

A ski lift around the corner?

Did you know that the nearest ski lift is closer that you would think? Johnsbach has its own ski lift. This is located just a couple of hundred metres away from the Kölblwirt and is one of the highlights for any family winter experience in Johnsbach. The drag lift may have been around for a while, but it still takes you up the mountain safely and reliably. By the way, the slope is also the starting point for some great ski tours. Whilst your kids enjoy the ski lift and develop into the ski elite of your country, you can embark on a romantic ski tour or snowshoe hike.

To the valley on a sledge

Why don’t you complement your perfect family holiday with an exciting tobogganing experience? The Ebneralm in Johnsbach, located not far off our Kölblalm, is the perfect place for a toboggan fun outing with the whole family. Start at the Ebnerkreuzung parking lot and hike up to the Ebneralm for about one hour, where you can rest and have a hearty snack before you embark on the adventurous 3-km ride. This is fun and excitement at its best!

Romantic moments in the winter wonderland

If trudging and leaping through the mountains on tour skis isn’t really your thing, and if you’d rather unwind in the scenic winter landscape around Johnsbach, then putting on your snow shoes is a grand idea. The same paths and walks that are so easy to walk and hike in summer are also ideal for superb snow shoeing and winter hikes. The guides from rafting.at, natur-bewegung.at or the Gesäuse National Park will gladly take you on a snow shoe tour. All equipment can conveniently be rented at your Kölblwirt.

Another marvellous pastime ice stock sport with a round or two at the Donnerwirt Inn’s ice track. We will gladly organise your outing: After the match, we hike back together to the Kölblwirt by torchlight, where hot refreshments await you by the fireplace. Sounds good? If you’d like to have an excitingly different snow experience, you can also leave the Johnsbach Valley for a few hours and put on your cross-country skis. Your cross-country ski equipment will be especially useful in the bottom of the valley around Admont and Hall. While you are out on your cross-country spins, you will relish the stunning views of the historic Admont Abbey, the surrounding Haller Mauern Mountains and even the Gesäuse Mountains on the far horizon.

Before you make you way back to the Johnsbach Valley, a beautiful winter hiking trail awaits you along the banks of the River Enns by the Rauchbodenweg trail. Depending on the snow conditions, you can walk it with or without snow shoes. The trail starts directly at the Ennssteg footbridge, right by the Willow Dome Discovery Centre. Whatever you are looking for and want, Johnsbach, the Gesäuse National Park and the Kölblwirt Inn are the ideal holiday location for you and your family.
